A Handful of Tips 95 –

                       Product Promotion

The five best tips to promote a new product

A good exhibit can help to promote a new product.  If you have something new and worthwhile to promote make a special effort to bring it to the attention of your clients, potential clients and the media.

1. Advertise in the appropriate media

Tell potential clients about the new features and benefits of the product.

Concentrate on specific areas where the product would be most used. e.g. trade or professional journals, health magazines etc.

2. Invite clients to a special event to market your new product

Send out invitations to clients when you send out their accounts.

3. Involve potential clients

Simple competitions with prizes are a good way to collect names and addresses for follow-up calls.

If you have an exhibit or demonstration at a large event, set up a hospitality area with tea and coffee, to encourage people to stop and talk.

4. Try to get a commitment

If you are promoting a new product strive for a sale. Emphasise the benefits of the product and note names of people showing an interest.

If you don’t make a sale, follow up with a call or send further information, as soon as possible after the meeting.

5. Evaluate the results

Analyse the costs of your publicity and the results.

What was successful? What can be done better another time?

Note recommendations and review them before your next promotional event.
