The five best tips for managing successfully
A successful manager must be able to get things done efficiently and bring about changes when the time is right. You will need well-trained, enthusiastic staff who fully support you.
1. Set your goals and objectives and explain them clearly
Get people to do what you want done because they want to do it.
Focus on ‘I can’ and ‘we will do this together’.
2. Treat others as you would like them to treat you
Be a good role model.
Maintain high ethical standards.
Be honest, sincere and tolerant.
A good manager has the ability to discover the ability in others. Never undermine the ability of others – everyone wants to succeed.
3. Be a good listener
Speak less, listen more.
Ask the hard questions. Without the right question you will never get the right answer. Don’t take anything for granted.
4. Don’t let others manage your time
The scarcest resource you will have as a manager is your time – and patience.
Devote your time to the most important issues.
Learn to delegate routine tasks.
5. Guide and encourage your staff
Be enthusiastic about their achievements.
One of the important jobs of a manager today is not to control people but to guide and excite them in their work.
