Another Handful of Tips 42 – Standing Out for Promotion
The five best tips to help you be noticed and promoted
Your promotion in the workforce will depend on your determination to succeed and your ability to maintain a good work record.
Your success will largely depend on your tenacity of purpose, what you know and who you know.
Follow these tips if you want promotion.
1. Get a good reputation
Be punctual for work (preferably arrive early).
Get your tasks done quickly and efficiently.
Employers notice which workers are reliable and perform well.
Achievers are the people who get the promotions.
2. Be a good role model
Earn the respect of your fellow workers.
Dress appropriately for the position you would like. Be neat and tidy.
Select your mentors and friends carefully. Remember who you know can be more important than what you know.
3. Be objective and honest with your comments
Think your views through objectively before making a comment and try to be fair and honest.
Always try to back up your statements with facts.
Don’t say what you believe others want to hear. Give independent ideas and opinions.
4. Don’t rush to your boss with your problems
Take responsibility for your own actions.
If you need to report a problem always recommend a solution for consideration. Be positive in your outlook.
5. Never forget the ‘golden rule’
“Do unto others as you would have them do unto you.”
Treat your colleagues and clients the way you would like to be treated – in a friendly manner, sincerely, sympathetically and with respect.
“Watch out if the going starts to get easy. You may be slipping downhill.”
